NASA discovered 60 “tiny moons in training” orbiting Saturn’s outer ring thanks to the retired Cassini probe. The timing of the find might be even more amazing than the find itself. Cassini found the baby moons just before making its final descent and disintegrating on Saturn.
On Sept. 15, 2017, right before Cassini made its descent into Saturn, it took one last photo. And just like that, it was the end of the 20-year mission. So long, Cassini. Thanks for the memories.
